6D4N in Nagoya: What You Can Do in Nagoya

October 02, 2019

Travelling with family is always fun to do. Yet making a sudden overseas trip is not always that fun. Last month we went to Nagoya - Japan for a sudden trip. We bought the ticket two weeks before the departure date. At the moment me, my husband and my baby didn't have any Japan visa, which I will write about it later. We were super lucky to find a cheap flight to Nagoya. Since couple months ago, Garuda Indonesia has opened (again) direct flight from/to Jakarta Nagoya. We got the ticket less than 5,8 million for return tickets. After we bought it, we were confused where to go and what to do in Nagoya in that short time. So, after googling and asking some friends in Japan, we decided to stay in Nagoya only. Below I share our itinerary trip, hopefully it can be helpfull for anyone whp reads this.

Day 1: Departure Day

Taking a night flight to reach your destination will save accomodation cost while travelling.  You can sleep during the flight and reach your destination in a fresh condition. Unless you stau awake during the flight watching movies, that's your loss.

There is some flights you can choose to reach Nagoya. Recently, Garuda Indonesia has joined flight with JAL (Japan Airlines) flying direct from Jakarta to Nagoya. The flight take off at 22.15 and reach Nagoya at 7.25 in the next morning.

Day 2: Arrive Safely, Hello Japan

Immigration and luggage will usually take 40-60 minutes to process. However, since I brought an infant, I  can take the priority line in the immigration and finish earlier than I expected. Done with all the stuffs, we are ready to go to our hotel in the center Nagoya. There are two options to go to the city center from the airport, by train or bus. By train is of course faster but it's more expensive than by bus. We chose using the bus and it costs 1,300 yen/person for one way.

We choose to stay in the city center, around Sakae area. We found Silk Tree Hotel Nagoya, a hotel with reasonable price and good location. It is closed to the Oasis 21, Nagoya TV Tower, one stop away from Nagoya Station, walking distance to Don Quixote, and the bus stop to/from airport it right in from of the hotel. We were happy enough to stay 3 nights there, despite the room is small. Oh well, we can't complain about the hotel room size in Japan.

Check in time in Japan is usually at 3 PM. But we can put our lugages in the lobby before check in. Since we couldn't enter our room, we were going to have some lunch and shopping around. We found a halal Indonesian restaurant close to our hotel, called Sama-sama. I forgot to take picture around and inside the restaurant. I guess because I was to tired. Anyway, after lunch we went to Osu Shopping District to buy some times.

In Osu, we can find everything we want. They have shoes, cloth, bag, minimarket, and even a pharmacy. If you want to experience shopping like local, you can try to go here. Be patient when in there. Take your time wander around, check from one store to another. Sometimes it is cheaper in different stores. I found some souvenirs made in Nagoya with a good price over there. There are some coffee shops as well if you want to take a break from shopping, which we did.

Day 3: Legoland

Newly opened theme park in Japan, Legoland. When everything is made by Lego bricks. Since we brought an infant who runs actively and like to explore, we thought it will be nice to bring her here. It turned out that it was nice decisions.

It is very easy to reach Legoland. It is located on the last station of Aonami Line, at Kinjofuto Station. It is around 10-15 minutes walk from the station. No need to think that you will walk outdoor, hot weather, because the surrounding is full of cute and nice cafe or shops. Which some people might spend more time around before entering Legoland.

Legoland theme park itself located in one area with SeaLife and Legoland Hotel. They provide bundle ticket for those who want to go to Legoland and SeaLife. Since we were planning to visit Nagoya Port Aquarium, so we skipped the SeaLife.

We spent the whole day in Legoland and we had some insight that we want to share. I think I will write more about Legoland Japan later to make this post not that long.

Day 4: Nagoya Port Aquarium

For those who love sea life, then going to this aquarium is a must. They have super duper big Orca, which is only two aquariums in Japan who has it. One is in Nagoya and the other is in Okinawa if I'm not mistaken.

It is quite big aquarium. It has 2 parts, south and north, and each part has 3 levels. It takes one day to go through all the Sea Life. I wasn't really enjoy my time there because my baby was crancky. We did really quick tour of the aquarium. Well, we didn't really disappointed because we were able to watch the dolphin show and orca show. Plus we have an aquarium as well in our country.

Day 5: Shopping Day (& Move to The Next Hotel)

On last day we decided to do shopping before we move to other hotels. We went shopping in Sakae area. There are a lot of shopping place you can choose, such as Don Quijote, Loft, Uniqlo, Muji, etc. It is walking distance from our hotel.

After lunch, we went back to our hotel to pick our belongings and wait for the bus to take us to Nagoya Airport. We were staying in Centra Air Hotel for our last night. Our flight will depart at 10 AM and we didn't want to in rush to go to the airport. That's why we moved to hotel close to the airport.

Day 6: Last Day, Going Back To Jakarta

We check out 7.30 AM in the morning and go directly to check in at the airport. Our flight was leaving at 10 AM and we arrived in Jakarta around 3 PM. It was short yet pleasant stay in Nagoya. Hope we can go back in the future to Japan again.
