It's all about South Island (4): Arrowtown & Lake Wakatipu - Queenstown
February 15, 2016
9th July 2015
It was the second day in Queenstown. The plan for that day was to explore Queenstown, visit Arrowtown, trying out the famous burger in the town and enjoying the view of Lake Wakatipu.
Arrowtown
When I first hear the name of the town, in my mind was like an old town, with old building surrounded by nature. And it is kind a true. Arrowtown is an old town and it is the combination of wild nature and history from the past.
This is one of the main streets in the town. There are some shops, cafes, and restaurants along the street. Since it was a fasting month, we didn’t try anything. We just wandered around from one shop to another. Trying to find a good postcard to be sent. Finally, after going to two shops, we found a lovely postcard that we like. Luckily, there is a small post office in the corner of the street. After finishing writing the postcard, we continued our exploration.
There is a small old Chinese town close to the main street. The actual name of the place is Arrowtown Chinese Settlement. It is one of the camps (Settlement) during Chinese miners were working for Otago miners. The house in the picture was the old house of the Chinese miners. It is unfortunate that there was not that much information available why the Chinese miners came to Otago and where are at the moment.
Ferg Burger - Queenstown
Back in Queenstown, we continued wandering the city. It is packed with people and shops. We did some window shopping. Jumping from one shop to other shops. We were not looking for anything special. We just have our time together. We wanted to try one of the best burgers in New Zealand, and since we were fasting, we have to wait until almost to iftar time before buying it.
Mr. B captured me from behind. I love it when he tries to capture me in secret.
One hour before iftar, we ran to the restaurant. We were going to have Ferg Burger. It is very famous and only available in Queenstown.
The line was not that long by the time we arrived. We got some brownies as complimentary for waiting. We ordered double Ferg with cheese, Sweet Bambi, and one veggie burger. We basically wanted to try everything, so we order that much. Alhamdulillah, it only took around 30 minutes until we got our meal. It was fast. We were so lucky. Usually, it takes more than an hour to line up, order, and get the meal.
Lake Wakatipu – Queenstown
We still had some time until our friend back from skiing. Turns out, our friend was a little bit late. So, we decided to enjoy sunset views in the Lake Wakatipu.
The color of the sky was so beautiful. The combination of the mountain full of snow and the purple sky was really magnificent. I just can’t get enough.
We waited until the sky turns dark.
Our friends called us and they said, they’re almost there. Time to go back to our accommodation, break the fast, have some sleep.
Reviewing about Ferg Burger. Overall the score for the burger is 8/10. The meat so well cook , not that raw, it is just perfect and nice. But what I really love is the vegetable. It is so fresh and crunchy. I usually don't eat the veggie if I am having a burger. But I ate this one because it's so nice. Another plus point of this burger, they have all types of burger, meat, lamb, chicken, vegiterian , and bambi . It can accomodate everyone. I love it.
