The South Part of Hokkaido

October 07, 2012

The name of the city is Hakodate and it is located in the south part of Hokkaido Island, Japan. This city is the first city in Hokkaido who opened the port for foreign ships and it had been the biggest city before the fire accident happened in 1934. Now this city is the third biggest city in Hokkaido after Sapporo and Asahikawa.

The Hakodate Station

Hakodate was my thrid as my graduation trip in Japan after South Korea and Tokyo. Must visit place is Mount Hakodate, which is located not far from the station. In order to get there, need to take tram, get off in Jyuji-gai and take another tram for Yachigashira. We need to walk for a little bit to get there. In my opinion, it is better to buy the one day pass for the tram, because the price is cheaper and more easy to use. The one day pass is only 600 Yen and we can buy it in the information center. For more information about tram in Hakodate

The View from The Mountain

Another place that I recommended is slope of motomachi, the historical district. Motomachi district is home of the oldest Greek Orthodox Church in Japan. To get there, get on a tram at Hakodate Station and get off at Suehiro-cho Station, but if you want to get there from Hakodate mountain, we can just walk down from there. The scenery is so beautiful, over the slope. At the edges, we can see sea and the slope is filled with trees.

Slope of Motomachi

You will find a lot of interesting shops such as souvenir shops, starbucks, and so on at the edges, Hakodate Bay area. No need to worry about car or bike while walking down the slope, because the car or bike will move in the low speed.
